Dr. David Livingston
President, Lewis University
Dr. David J. Livingston took office as Lewis University's 10th President on July 1, 2016 with more than 15 years of academic and leadership experience. Over the last seven years Lewis has added new health science programs in Speech Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy as well as seen significant growth in Aviation and Computer science. Lewis has also had significant growth in international students with over one thousand international students now studying in Romeoville.
Dr. Livingston previously served as President of Lourdes University (2013-2016). During his tenure, Lourdes experienced an increase in the quality, retention and graduation rates of its students; expanded academic programs and renovated the campus to support their strategic growth initiatives.
Prior to his presidency at Lourdes University, he served Mercyhurst University for 16 years in various capacities, including President of the Faculty Senate and Vice President for Advancement. Prior to joining the Mercyhurst community, he taught religious studies at Loyola Academy High School in Wilmette, Vanderbilt University in Nashville, University of St. Francis in Joliet, Joliet Catholic Academy and Loyola University of Chicago.
Reflections on the Importance of Electrical Engineering for global Development and Cautions for its future.
Global development has been enhanced in scale and scope over the last three centuries due in part to the increasing understanding and practical applications of electricity as a phenomenon. The harnessing of this power in all its forms has transformed human societies in ways that are incalculable. Reflecting on the social ethics of the increasing pace and impact of electrical and computer engineering is necessary as universities and their partners consider curricular development and research agendas. This presentation will offer reflections from ethical, religious and administrative lenses on the hope, promise and potential harm one sees in today's technologies and tomorrow's developments.

Professor Mohammad Shahidehpour
Illinois Institute of Technology
Dr. Mohammad Shahidehpour is a University Distinguished Professor, Bodine Chair Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Director of the Robert W. Galvin Center for Electricity Innovation at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). He has over 40 years of experience with power system operation, planning, and control and has completed several major projects for the electric energy sector. His project on Perfect Power Systems has converted the entire IIT Campus to an islandable microgrid. Dr. Shahidehpour was the recipient of several technical awards including of the IEEE Burke Hayes Award for his research on hydrokinetics, IEEE/PES Outstanding Power Engineering Educator Award, IEEE/PES Ramakumar Family Renewable Energy Excellence Award, IEEE/PES Douglas M. Staszesky Distribution Automation Award, and the Edison Electric Institute's Power Engineering Educator Award. He has co-authored 6 books and over 800 technical papers on electric power system operation and planning, and served as the founding Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid. Dr. Shahidehpour is the recipient of the 2009 honorary doctorate from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest. He is a Fellow of IEEE, Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), and an elected member of the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE). He is also listed as a highly cited researcher on the Web of Science (ranked in the top 1% by citations demonstrating significant influence among his peers).
Maintaining the Electricity Grid Resilience in Decarbonization Era
Climate change, as one of the major galvanizers of extreme events, has increased the frequency and the severity of adverse weather conditions (hurricanes, flood, fire, drought) throughout the world. In the year of 2019, United States suffered 14 weather-related disasters, including one wildfire, two tropical cyclones, three floods, and eight severe storms, each incurring economic losses of which exceeded $1 billion. The grid modernization proposals and smart grid implementations will increase the role of renewable energy in the decarbonization of our environment. However, the resilience of the electricity grid and enhanced reliability remain to be the looming issues in the US electric power industry as electric utilities face more uncertainty (renewable energy, microgrids, behind-the-meter load control options, proliferation of EVs, etc.) in the electricity grid operation. Wind and solar are not only weather dependent but are also interfaced to the grid by inverter-based technologies which could lead to big challenges for power system operations. This presentation will highlight the major issues pertaining to the provision of grid residence, role of renewable energy and microgrids in grid modernization, and the electric utility’s response to the mandate for the decarbonization of our communities.

Mr. Klouda has been active in the related fields of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and RF shielding design since 1981. He is proficient with military and commercial EMC specification, including Mil-Std- 461, RTCA-DO160, FCC rules, Canadian Regulations, CE Marking and International compliance including CISPR and IEC/ISO specifications. As a technical reviewer, he reviews and approves radio devices under the Telecommunication Certification Body program. In addition, he leads the team responsible for the administration of Elite's ISO 17025 quality system and ISO Guide 65 certification systems. He is an iNARTE Certified EMC Engineer and a licensed professional engineer in the State of Illinois. He is an active member of the IEEE EMC Society. Mr. Klouda received his electrical engineering degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana B.S.E.E. (1981) and graduated with honors (Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu Honor Societies). Ray lives in Lisle, IL with his three children Lauren, Stacey and Dave. He enjoys gardening and traveling.

Bell Labs Fellow, Senior Technology Advisor in the Technology Leadership Office, Nokia
ANNE Y. LEE is a Bell Labs Fellow currently working as a Senior Technology Advisor in the Technology Leadership Office on Technology Strategy and Architecture supporting the CSTO and CEO by analyzing the evolution of key technologies (e.g. artificial intelligence) and the overall network architecture to identify new directions for the industry and the impact and requirements on the company's portfolio.
Anne has over 30 years of experience at Nokia (AT&T, Lucent Technologies, Alcatel-Lucent, and Nokia).
She is the original IMS technical team leader for Lucent Technologies working closely with the standards team from the beginning - circa 1999 - to pioneer the multi-access, globally interoperable IP communications system being deployed worldwide today. 2019 was the 20th anniversary of IMS and today there are roughly three to four billion devices deployed utilizing VoLTE, VoWiFi, fixed voip, and RCS services. IMS has just gone cloud native and adoption continues around the globe into 5G and beyond evolving to features beyond voice with the integration of WebRTC.
Anne is a technologist at heart and an electrical engineer and computer scientist by training. She became a Bell Labs Fellow in 2005.
AI and Telecom
While artificial intelligence has gradually become a mainstream topic in the Telecom industry over the last few years, large language models (LLMs) and generative AI have catapulted AI into the consciousness of everyone around the globe in just a few months due to the astounding public reception to ChatGPT. This jolt by LLMs for the entire field of artificial intelligence is being felt by seemingly all industries with Telecom being no exception. This presentation will describe the areas where Telecom can benefit from AI/ML - including generative AI and LLMs - as well as address Responsible AI and impending government regulations in the context of Telecom.

Dr. Madjid Fathi
Professor and Head of KBS & KM
University of Siegen, Germany
Madjid Fathi is a professor and head of KBS & KM (Knowledge Based System & Knowledge Management) institute at the EECS Department at the University of Siegen, Germany. Accordingly, he obtained Habilitation degree ("Venia docendi") at the University of Ilmenau, Germany, in 1998. Before he got the Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Siegen, he was visiting scholar at Florida State University and from 2003 at LMM (Lab for Micromechanics - Prof. Garmestani) Georgia Institute of Technology. Since 2004, he is in Siegen. He was a visiting scholar with Professor Zadeh father of Fuzzy Logic at U.C. Berkeley dept. of EECS joined the BISC (Berkeley Initiative of Soft Computing) from Sep/2012 to Sept/2013. As head of KBS, he leads a large academic team of researchers and educators which has, thus far, resulted in over 80 theses. His research interests are focused on AI, Knowledge Based System (KBS), knowledge management and their applications in medicine and engineering, knowledge transfer, organizational learning, and knowledge discovery from text (KDT). He is the editor of "Integration of Practice-Oriented Knowledge Technology" (2013) and "Integrated Systems, Design and Technology" (2011) published by Springer, as well as three text books (the last one has been published in October 2019 with the title: Computer aided Writing by Springer) and five edited books.
Framework based on Knowledge Graphs for Recommendations and Explanations in different Domains - An AI Approach
The smart factory has long been part of the innovative research that meets the latest needs of collaborative human activities, and as a concept enables a smooth transition to a new advanced society with a range of technological and integrated resources. After Industry 4.0, we are talking about Society 5.0, which will be able to present a societal progress as a whole. Certainly, among many knowledge presentation models, a knowledge graph representation-based model should be constructed to generate recommendations and related explanations in various fields. The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in today's lifecycle shows that we need to understand that it is only possible with integrated resources and new technologies to solve a multidisciplinary task. The framework presented in this talk and its possibilities for intelligent information retrieval through a knowledge graph is able to generate explainable recommendations. On the one hand, the areas of application discussed in this talk implement a knowledge graph-based representation of emergency instructions in order to recommend and explain possible next steps or courses of action. On the other hand, learning path recommendations based on a pedagogical learning graph for further vocational education and training in the field of medical care for people in need of care are presented.
